Khetiwe Ndlovu: I am a 37 year old South African lady from Schoemansdal in Nkomazi. I started working with Thembalethu in 2003 as part of Youth In Action Project working under the Small, Micro, Medium Enterprise desk (SMME). We were responsible for helping to create small businesses to generate income opportunities for the youth.
I was trained in soap production and also in Marula Cosmetics production. I then moved to the Wildly African arts and craft centre, working with 30 artist in different genres, such as, Fabric painting ,Beading ,Sewing ,Paper making, Pottery and glass beads recycling.
I worked with them for 5 years as a supervisor then in 2009 I left Thembalethu for studying in Zigna training as a Social Auxiliary worker. I finished in 2010 and came back to Thembalethu for 6 months practical work coordinating the Orphans and Vulnerable Children Project. At this stage, with my skills and profession I moved on to work with Grip as a full time Social Auxiliary worker for a contract of 12 months and then I moved on to Pretoria Life line working in a victim empowerment project, dealing with Domestic violence, rape victims and drug addicted children.
At the present I’m working with Thabang Youth Project in Thabazimbi as a Social Auxiliary Worker dealing with Orphans and vulnerable children, rape victims and neglected children providing counselling and life skills.
Skills that I benefited from at Thembalethu:
- Doing presentations with self -esteem
- Report writing
- Communication and time management
- Supervision
I would like to say thank you Thembalethu – for everything you have done in my life. It was not easy, but now that I have information and exposure I realize, and I can understand, that I learned a lot and now I can be of benefit to the organization where I am working.
