The organisation has noted that there is high level of illiteracy in our community and that has provided fertile ground for the spread of HIV/AIDS and poverty. Therefore in 2013, Thembalethu Nkomazi launched the opening of the library with the support by Za Foundation.
The aim of the project was to ensure the culture of reading is cultivated for children and youth at an early stage. Those communities that are far from our centre (Schoemansdal) are now being reached through the mobile library. This is to ensure no one is left behind when it comes to improving themselves academically and through intellectual activities. Reading of books will make a contribution towards intellectual development of our children and youth. The library activities are linked to the activities for the afterschool care programme. This will ensure our own orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) become well equipped with information and as a result in the future they will be able to compete in the social and economic space.
