The Snail Project 

Heliculture as a source of food

Thembalethu Nkomazi's heliculture project was initiated in collaboration with the Snail Association in Mbombela (formerly Nelspruit). The goal is to cultivate snails as a sustainable and nutritious source of food and at the same time, generate funds for Thembalethu Nkomazi through marketing the slime to the cosmetics industry. 
Heliculture: The process of raising snails specifically for flesh, slime, eggs or other economic uses is known as heliculture.
Still in its infancy, the project employs three individuals who have been carefully trained to meet the exacting standards of the snail industry.
